Born and reared on Marsden, a dairy farm near Porthoustock; I know I had a pretty idyllic childhood - fresh air, animals everywhere and homemade, freshly-cooked food every day.
My mum, a great and inspirational women, mother and all round superstar, worked daily alongside Dad - a true old fashioned hands-on dairy farmer - ‘A lost legend‘. They let half the house for self-catering and also built a guest house to move into and run as the family grew-up. Mum’s evening meals were legendary!
Food has always been a feel-good and happy element in my life: from mum’s wonderful family Sunday roasts, to our annual birthday bashes with homemade birthday cakes; picnics on the beach as children; lunches out with family and friends and making things to give away.
I have worked with food for a long time now and have always had a dream that one day I could run my own little café just like my gran did in Helston many years ago - called “Ruth’s” - named after herself and still going to this day!
So when I had the chance to try my hand I jumped at it, trying to create a ‘quirky’ little vibe of somewhere you can get some nice tasty food - not always traditional; I like to put ‘my own take on a plate’ - but also a nice place to be, with atmosphere and smiles, so a warm welcome awaits.
Welcome to the Harbour Lights. I hope you enjoy it and I hope we see you again!
